Mary Hostetler Hoyt

Baroque Violin

Mary has performed extensively on baroque and modern violin. After receiving her Bachelor Of Music degree from Temple University, she joined the Noorderlijk Filharmonisch Orkest in The Netherlands. Concurrently she studied baroque violin privately with Jaap Schroeder, one of the first teachers of historically informed baroque performance practice. Upon returning to North America, she began performing and recording with many prominent authentic instrument ensembles including Canada’s Tafelmusik, England’s Hanover Band, Aston Magna, Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society, as well as New York’s Concert Royal, the Ensemble for Early Music, he Dryden Ensemble, and the Connecticut Early Music Ensemble.

Mary has worked with soloists as soprano Julianne Baird, baritone Max von Egmond, cellist Anner Bylsma, flautist John Solum, and harpsichordists Webb Wiggins and Jerry Curry. In recent years she joined Jaap Schroeder as a recital partner in Europe and at Yale University. She has appeared on more than two dozen CDs, recording for such labels as Sony Classical, Telarc, Centaur, Pro Arte, Vox, and Newport Classics. Ms. Hoyt is currently a National Board Certified teacher at Chapin Intermediate School in District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties and teaches over 220 5th and 6th grade beginning string players.
